Parliament of Sierra Leone Evaluates 2024 Parliamentary Learning and Sharing Series
The Parliament of Sierra Leone, under the leadership of the Deputy Clerk and Director General, convened on January 22, 2024, to review the progress of the 2024 Parliamentary Learning and Sharing (PLS) Series. The event, held at Committee Room One, also celebrated the contributions of planners and facilitators who played a pivotal role in staff development through this initiative.
The PLS Series, officially launched on May 16, 2024, by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, aims to foster a culture of continuous learning within Parliament. The program is managed by the Centre for Strategy & Parliamentary Studies (CSPS) in partnership with various parliamentary departments.
An evaluation report presented by Parliament’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research Units highlighted the significant impact of the PLS Series on staff performance. The report acknowledged notable improvements in staff knowledge, professional growth, and interdepartmental collaboration, attributing much of the success to the facilitators’ expertise.
The evaluation also identified areas for further improvement, including:
- Promoting greater involvement of junior staff in presentations.
- Enhancing logistics for the sessions, such as better time management and improved ventilation.
- Increasing financial support for the initiative.
Deputy Clerk Mr. Gilbert N’habay, speaking on behalf of Clerk of Parliament Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally, underscored the strategic importance of the PLS Series. “This program enhances our staff’s capabilities and aligns with our mission for a more effective Parliament,” he said. Mr. N’habay also commended the organizers for their dedication and called for a standing ovation in their honor.
The event served as a testament to Parliament’s commitment to fostering a knowledgeable and well-equipped workforce, ensuring the institution remains efficient and responsive to national needs.
